Many of the people who are unfortunate enough to have been involved in an automobile accident suffer from some form of injury. There are many types of injuries that affect people after an automobile accident that cause pain, limited range of motion and other issues.

It’s important to visit a doctor for a physical examination after an accident. Some symptoms of injuries do not display until a few days after the accident. By this point, the injury may be more challenging to treat. Catching it early on may result in a quicker and less painful treatment experience.

Signs you’ve been injured in an accident

You cannot observe these kinds of sleeper symptoms on your own, but there are other symptoms you can observe that indicate you need medical assistance, including:

  • Pain — Not surprisingly, pain is first on the list because it is the body’s way of telling you something is wrong. If you are in pain after an automobile accident, do not hesitate to seek medical attention.
  • Swelling and redness — Swelling develops as the body’s response to many injuries. Swelling indicates that there is a buildup of white blood cells in an injured area to help it heal. Often, swollen areas will be red and warm to the touch due to inflammation and irritation in the injured area.
  • Stiffness — If you’ve lost range of motion in your back, neck or one of your limbs, you may have an injury that requires professional treatment.
  • Numbness and tingling — Some auto accident injuries can affect the nerves in your spine and other parts of your body. This frequently results in numbness and tingling, which indicates you need immediate medical treatment.
  • Confusion and dizziness — Confusion, dizziness, headaches, slurred speech and light sensitivity are signs that you may have a concussion. Concussions are usually not life-threatening but they do require immediate medical treatment.
